Was my Performance Good Enough?

I’ve been quite busy the last couple of days, therefore my blog update is a little bit late. However, better late than never, right? On Tuesday July 16, was the big day! It was finally my turn to show my monologues in front of the judges and I was super excited. The competition began at 9 am and I was on quite early. First of all, we had to register and then we were called into the room with the judges, some other contestant and a small audience (anyone with a WCOPA batch can watch). When we were in the room, they called one contestant at a time, the contestant walked on stage, did the monologue and walked off (no comments and no results…nobody knew what the judges thought…)

I began with my comical monologue, then I changed my outfit, waited in line, did my dramatical monologue, changed outfit, waited in line and then I did my open monologue. And that was it! It all happened so fast…I’ve waiting for this moment for so long… and now I’m done…

But I did enjoy it! It’s pretty cool to perform in front of an “important” audience in LA, the city of performance and fame! I watched some of the other contestants as well, and many of them were extremely talented. I began to realize that the semifinal was an unlikely thing…

When we were done with our performances, me and another girl from my team decided to explore long beach and experience some American culture. We found out that Target is 5.5 km away and made a spontaneous decision to walk there in the California sun…and that’s a long trip when the sun is burning and you’re wearing Birkenstock…and you know that you have to walk back as well…

But we got there! Target: check! And to top it of with more American culture, we ate grilled cheese at In-and-Out before we walked back. We were tired after performing and walking 11 km, but it was totally worth it (even though I did get a little bit sunburned). We had a blast!

And then, at 7 am on Wednesday, the semifinalists were revealed! The third floor was crowded, people were tired and nervous. I was really hoping that I would make it, but I didn’t… unfortunately…However, the two models from the Norwegian team (Alea Mehaj, who is 7 years old, and Alexandra Kodvåg, who is 16) made it to the semifinals! That’s extremely impressive! There were not many people who made it to the semifinals.

Since we didn’t make it to the semifinal, we had more time to go sightseeing! We ordered an Uber and went to Hollywood Walk of Fame! That was pretty awesome! I even got to help a lady who was earning money on tourism…she asked me to go and buy a Subway sandwich for her. She gave me money; I grabbed a sandwich for her and then she allowed me to write my name on one of the stars for FREE!

After that, another tourist came up to us and gave us a free ticket to a museum! Our lucky day! However, she only gave us one ticket and we were two people, and we weren’t that interested in the museum. The staff at the museum told us that the ticket might count as a free ticket for the sightseeing tour as well (which sounded more appealing!). However, the staff at the sightseeing tour told us that it didn’t. But since we had that ticket (and we’re two young blonde girls…) the guy told us that we could get the two-hour tour for 25 dollars (instead of 45 dollars). Still a whole lot of money, but since we’re only here now, we did it.

The tour was okay…we saw many celebrity homes! Michael Jackson’s. Elvis Presley’s, Justin Bieber’s, Jennifer Lawrence’s and many other homes…but they’re still just houses…I wasn’t too impressed. But we did see the Hollywood sign and the Universal studies (from far) as well…

When we came back after the tour, we had some issues…we wanted to go back to the hotel and get ready for the World Star party at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center…but that wasn’t easy… Long story short, we had some problems with signal and battery on phones, ordering Uber car, finding Uber driver, a lot of traffic and other crazy stuff! Luckily, people are extremely friendly here and the staff at a really fancy hotel helped us out. We got the phone charged and found the driver. But we were late for the party…however, we made it on time for the announcement of the finalists! And the two girls from Norway made it to the finals! Extremely impressive! Congratulations to them!

Right before I went to bed, I found out that some of the contestants had received special invites by some of the judges to the go-see (which is an event where we get to talk with producers, casting agents, judges, etc.). I ran down to the third floor to check if I had received any special invites…and I had! A couple of the judges had given me special invites! I don’t really know what that means yet, but I’ll figure that out today (Thursday July 18) when I go to the go-see!

That was it for now. I’ll go the go-see today, watch the final tomorrow and find out if I receive any awards on Saturday evening.
